[00:03:00] For the last seven episodes, we have been auditing the hidden taxes that will never show up on a financial statement, but quietly drain your capacity for wealth, for leadership, for impact, and good old-fashioned peace.
We've named the survival tax, the approval tax, the control tax, the hustle tax, my personal favorite, the receiving tax, the trust tax, and the visibility tax. And today, in this series finale, we are going to do the final tax and the audit. We're gonna add it all up. But I want you to know that this is not just a recap because today, I am gonna show you the one thing that connects every single tax that we have named in this series.
Every one of those taxes was paid by the same person, one identity, one version of you who learned somewhere along the way that in order to be safe enough to survive, in order to be [00:04:00] loved, to be approved, in order to be okay, she had to control everything. In order to be considered worthy, she had to hustle.
In order to be considered strong, she could not receive. In order to be wise, she had to be certain. And to be acceptable, she had to stay hidden. That is not seven separate problems. That is one person carrying seven additional weights, and that person is the eighth and final tax. In this episode, we are talking all about the identity tax, the cost of staying who you have been, the version of you who cannot go where you are going next.
So the question that this entire series has been leading toward The one that I want you to sit with all the way through this finality is what version of you has actually expired. Now, I've only been able to teach these taxes because I have lived them. And to tell you the truth, some of them I lived not that long ago. There certainly was a point in my own journey where I had built something very real as a multi-million dollar company with an eight-figure portfolio, including three additional businesses.
And I have built my own movement, and I've had the pleasure of working with thousands of entrepreneurs, many of whom you love and have worked with. They have come here and learned how to take their business to the next level, working directly with me and going through our Move to Millions method. And even with all of that, y'all I hit a ceiling that no strategy could move.
And when I finally got honest about why I was where I was, I had to admit that the woman who had built all [00:07:00] of it was the exact reason that it could not grow any further. When I tell you that this series hits home, believe me, I have never been a theorist. I only speak from my own experience, and this journey has been one of those journeys.
At some point, I promise you, I have paid all the taxes that I've broken down to you throughout this series. And those taxes, just so we're clear, they don't feel like flaws. They feel like me. They feel like my work ethic, my standards, my faith, my strength, all of who I have been, the sum total of my experience that makes up my identity.
I had to honor the woman who built all of this on survival and hustle. I had to thank her for her assignment, and then several times over the years, I've had to ask her to step aside. And I'll be honest, that is the hardest thing that a high performer ever does. And that is the part that nobody prepares you for.
It is not hard to release a bad habit, but [00:08:00] let me just tell you, it is so excruciating. You see me clutching my invisible pearls when you are trying to get rid of a good identity. The version of me that I had to let go was not a failure. She's a champion. She has receipts. She has literally transformed countless lives.
She has survived things that should have taken her out. I have built something from nothing. So how in the world do I go about trying to release her? How do you tell the version of yourself who saved your life that they cannot take the rest of the journey with you? Well, for me, you go on a gap year. No, seriously, you do it the way you would honor anyone who has completed an assignment.
You thank them, you acknowledge everything that was carried, and then you let them rest so that the next version of them, the one that their next level [00:09:00] actually requires, finally has room to arrive. I had to do that myself, y'all. And honestly, I'm actively doing that this year and over the years. So many times I have fallen in and out of paying these taxes, from survival to hustle to control, and even figuring out how to receive.
And now I am a version of me that recognizes every tax has been paid and settled, and now it is time to rise into my next evolution. And the day that I was ready to rise, the ceiling that no strategy could move, it actually began to lift all on its own. Because the ceiling was never in my business, the ceiling was always in who I was being.
So this finale is my personal audit out loud in the hopes that it will give you the courage to complete your own audit of all the taxes. So we're gonna add up all the taxes [00:10:00] and we're gonna find the identity that is hiding underneath of all of them. So let's talk about how this audit works. Under every tax is a fear, and under every fear is the identity that you built or I built to keep that fear quiet. So we're gonna walk back through all seven of the taxes, and this time I don't want you to look at the behavior, I want you to look at the fear beneath the behavior.
And I want you to notice which ones feel most familiar to you, because that is more than likely your most expensive tax. All right, let's jump in. The survival tax. The [00:11:00] fear underneath is the fear that you are not safe, that the ground could literally give way in any moment. So what do you do? You brace, you hoard, you stay ready so that you don't have to get ready, and you never let yourself exhale.
The identity that you built is the one who is always ready for the bottom to fall out or the other shoe to drop The second tax is the approval tax. The fear underneath it is the fear of rejection, that if you stop performing, over-delivering, and people-pleasing, you will not be chosen. So you contort yourself to be liked.
The identity that you built is the one who earns their belonging by never being too much and never disappointing anyone. The third tax we got into is the control tax. The fear underneath of it is the fear of being let down. That if you release your grip, it will all fall apart and no one will catch it but you.
So you hold [00:12:00] everything and you trust no one. The identity that you built is the one who has to carry it all alone because depending on anyone else feels way too dangerous. The fourth tax was the hustle tax. The fear underneath is the fear that you are not enough, that your worth has to be earned over and over through what you produce, so you never stop.
Because stopping means that you have got to face the possibility that without the output, you are not valuable, which means you are not enough. The identity that you built is the one that is only as good as your last achievement The next tax is the receiving tax. Now, the fear underneath of it is the fear of being vulnerable.
That having needs, that being helped, that being poured into would expose you as less than the strong one that everyone has relied on. [00:13:00] So you give and give and never let anybody give back. The identity that you built is the one that is the source, but never the vessel. Next was the trust tax. The fear underneath is the fear of being wrong and the fear of becoming a failure.
That if you move without certainty and it does not work, the mistake will cost you everything. So you wait and you call waiting wisdom or discernment. The identity that you built is the one who needs a guarantee before they will actually allow themselves to move. And the next tax was the visibility tax.
The fear underneath of it is the fear of being seen for who you truly are. The fear that if people saw the real, full, bold you, you would be judged, you would be criticized or rejected. So you stay hidden and you call it humility. The identity that you built is the one that keeps your magnitude under wraps so that no one [00:14:00] is ever made uncomfortable by your light.
Now, under every tax is a fear, and under every fear is an identity that you built in order to survive paying that tax. If you settle the identity, guess what? Every tax is settled along with it. Now, these are not seven different versions of yourself. It's one version of you who learned a very long time ago, likely as a little girl or a little boy, that the world was not a safe place and that love was conditional, and that you had to earn your place, prove your worth, and carry it alone.
You had to be absolutely unequivocally certain, and you had to keep playing small. And every one of those beliefs became a strategy, and every strategy became a tax, and all of it became your identity. A magnificent, exhausting, expired identity And it is the one thing that you cannot afford to take with you to your next level.
Now, here's the part that's [00:15:00] really fascinating. The reason that this is so hard to really do this work and pay the taxes has nothing to do with willpower. It's actually a brain problem. There's a UCLA psychologist named Hal Hershfield who studies how we relate to our future selves. I thought this was so fascinating.
And using brain imaging, he and his colleagues at Stanford found something really remarkable. What they learned is that when you think about your future self, you know, the version of you 10 years from now, the version of you who is at your next level, believe it or not, your brain does not light up the way that it does when you think about yourself today.
It actually lights up the way that it does when you think about a stranger. On a neural level, your future self looks to your brain like another person entirely. Isn't that weird? Isn't that interesting? And here is the consequence. The people whose future self look most like a stranger to their own [00:16:00] brains were the least patient, and they were the worst at making decisions in service of that future self.
Because, as Hershfield puts it, why would you sacrifice your future self when, to your brain, he or she feels like a stranger you are just handing things over to, right? I mean, it makes sense, doesn't it? Here's what we've learned. Your brain treats your next-level self like a stranger. Now, this is not a flaw.
It is the work. You're going to have to go and become your next-level self. This is why you keep defaulting to your old identity. Not because you're weak, but because the next-level version of you literally registers as someone that you do not know yet. So the entire game is to close that gap so that you begin to look like your next-level self and not like a stranger, and you actually do the work of becoming her.
And that, by definition, requires releasing the one who [00:17:00] is currently in the seat. Now, let me tell you what it costs to refuse this audit, to drag your old identity into your next level anyway 'cause it's safer. At the end of the day, you will rebuild the same business in a different, bigger package. This is the trap that almost no one sees.
It's why I'm on a gap year, because I recognize that if I was not careful, I would literally rebuild the same thing again So I had to give myself the space to build the capacity to actually make the changes that I most need to change so that my work can evolve along with the version of me that has indeed evolved.
So many people keep regurgitating the same thing, but calling it something different. Listen, y'all, I didn't wanna do that. I did not wanna be her. I wanted to make the changes that I most needed to make, and I wanted to live into the business that I wanna run in my next season, no apology, with [00:18:00] nothing to prove.
And I'll be honest, I spent a lot of these first 18 or so years trying to prove that I'm worthy 'cause I didn't believe that I was worthy. Now, those are the much earlier years, not these latter ones. But if I'm being honest, there were still some moments in there where I was questioning my value and my worth, and it's why I was outputting at a level that really wasn't serving me.
But as I started to really do this soul leadership work over the last two to three years, as I've really been changing from the inside out, I could no longer keep up with that old version, and I couldn't keep doing what the old version had put in place. That's why I had to shut it all down. That's why I had to give myself the permission to say goodbye to all of that programming and give myself the permission to step into this next iteration of myself.
And I'm telling y'all, I am so excited about the work of Sanctuary, Sanctuary Core and Sanctuary Business that is [00:19:00] coming. It is the game changer you did not even know you need, and I cannot wait for you to get yourself enrolled into one of the programs. 'Cause here's what I know. You will do all the work.
You will change the offer, you will change the team, you will change the strategy, you will change the branding, and within 18 months, if you are not careful, you will be standing in the same exact place, hitting the exact same ceiling you were already hitting, feeling the exact same way you were already feeling, wondering why the new strategy did not work It has never been a strategy problem.
You literally will have brought the same identity to your new level, and that identity will rebuild the same reality. Hear me when I say this, 'cause I know it firsthand. You cannot out-strategize who you are being. And I also want you to think about the exhaustion that will never end if you keep replicating the same cycle [00:20:00] of the old identity.
Because your old identity was built on survival or hustle or control or whichever one of those taxes were running you, the bigger you grow while you're still carrying that identity, the heavier it will get until the success itself becomes the things that is actually crushing you. You will have built a life that looks like a dream and feels like a sentence because the person that is living it is never going to upgrade to enjoy it.
And I think that the deepest cost of all of this is your legacy, because the next level is not just about more money, it is about the version of your assignment that only the next version of you can actually deliver. The message that they can preach, the rooms that they can hold, the people that they can reach, the wholeness that you will model for your children and your children's children.
All of that is locked inside of the version of [00:21:00] yourself that if you're not careful, you don't actually release because you need to make space for who you're becoming. And you'll continue trying to protect that old version instead of growing into the one that you should. And I don't want you to do that.
I don't want you to spend the rest of your life defending your old identity. I want the highest version of yourself to come out so that you get to feel the fulfillment of that If you've been doing all the right things but still feel like you're carrying more weight than you should, it's not your strategy, it's your pattern.

You would not let the person who built all of this become the person that can't carry it forward, right? So I want you to hear me when I say this. This is the most important audit you will ever run, and the good news is that it's also the most freeing. So let me show you exactly [00:23:00] how you're going to run this audit.
And this is also gonna pull the entire series all together. I believe that every level of success has an identity that belongs to it. The identity that gets you to six figures is not the one that's gonna get you to seven, right? And the one that gets you to seven figures is not the one that's gonna get you to be able to hold eight.
Each level has an entry requirement, and that requirement is not a strategy. It is a version of yourself. You've heard me say this before, revenue rises to meet identity. Revenue rises to meet capacity. It rises to meet both of them. So when you are stuck at a ceiling, the real question is never only what do I need to do?
It is who do I need to become? And just as importantly, who do I need to release? The eighth tax is the one underneath all of the others, the identity tax. This is the cost of staying who you have been, and here is the reframe that makes it all bearable [00:24:00] because most people resist the identity death out of the loyalty and grief that accompanies it.
But I want you to know and understand that releasing the old you is not a betrayal of the old you. It is a graduation That version of you was not wrong. They were right for the season that they were built in and that they were built for. The survival was right when the ground really was not safe. The hustler was right when output really was how you got to your very first wins.
The controller was right when there was really no one else to catch it. You are not firing her in disgrace. You are honoring her completing an assignment, and you are letting her rest. Trust me when I tell you that is not lost. That is the most respectful thing you can do for the version of yourself that has carried you this far.
So again, back to the audit. The audit is simply this. I want you to identify the tax that costs you the most. [00:25:00] I want you to trace it to the fear that is hiding underneath of it. Then I want you to name the identity that you built around that particular fear. Then I want you to ask the question this whole series was built to bring you to: What version of me has expired, and am I willing to honor them while letting them go?
Take a deep breath in. Okay, so let me just give you the path because I wanna make sure that you understand the three steps to take this audit and release that old version of yourself, right? So step number one is to name her. Now, you cannot release a version of yourself that you have never consciously identified, so you're gonna have to name her.
Is she the survivor, the performer, the controller, the hustler? Give her a description. Get specific about how she operates, what she is afraid of, and which tax she has been paying on your behalf. Okay, gentlemen, I keep saying her, but you know how to [00:26:00] insert yourself in there, right? Okay, good. Most CEOs are being quietly run by an, an identity that they have never once looked in the eye.
The naming is the beginning of the freedom, so that's step number one. Step number two is honoring the identity. Then you have to release it. Now, you don't wanna shame it on the way out because shame just digs into her deeper, right? Instead, you're gonna thank that identity out loud if you can. You wanna acknowledge what was built and what they survived.
Tell them that their assignment is complete, and then with respect, release that identity. This is not a funeral. It's a graduation ceremony. You are not killing that identity. You are letting it rest because they have earned their rest because the next version of you cannot arrive until the previous version has gone on and is no longer running everything.
And then step number three, start acting as the next version of yourself now. [00:27:00] Remember, your brain treats your next level like a stranger, so you have to introduce yourself to your next level by living as her or him before it feels natural. Ask in the small decisions, "What would the next level version of me do right here?
How does she think? How does she move? How does he price? How does he rest? What does he refuse to carry? How does she let others help?" Listen, you do not become the next version by waiting to feel like the next version. You become the next version by making decisions like them now while you are still the previous version.
Identity does not change when you act differently. You act differently and then identity catches up Now, all of this is gonna be different based on the way that you are wired. Identity is different for every single one, and every level is asking for a different version to release. [00:28:00] Yes, I'm talking about the Ascension archetype quiz.

It is deeper authority, the kind that does not need applause to know that it is real. So letting go of needing to be watched and become the one who is known, that's what you need to do.
If you are the Producer, hey, Producer, you must release the identity of the one who produces. Your next level is not more output. It is more leverage and more being. You have to let go of earning your worth through what you generate, and you have to become the one who is [00:29:00] valuable even when they are resting.
If you are the Path Maker, hey, Path Maker, you must release the identity of the one that has endless options. Your next level is not another new direction. It is depth and commitment. So you have to let go of keeping every door open and become the one who plants roots long enough to let an anchor compound into something powerful.
If you are a Powerhouse, hey, Powerhouse, you must release the identity of the one that carries it all alone. Your next level is not more strength. It is more support and collaboration. Let go of proving you never need anyone and become the one who is strong enough to be held by other people. And if you are a Prophet, hey, Prophet, you must release the identity of the one who has to be certain.
Your next level is not more clarity. It is [00:30:00] more trust. Trust of self, trust of God. Let go of needing the whole picture before you move and become the one who walks by faith and lets the path appear as you walk it. Now, what version of you has expired? Name the version, honor the version, and let the version's assignment be complete so that the next version of you can begin their assignment So where does the becoming actually happen?
You might be asking that question because here's the truth that this entire series has been really working you toward. You cannot do this alone at your desk by sheer willpower. An identity does not transform in isolation. It transforms in a space that can hold the new version of you before they fully exist You probably guessed it by now.
