Ep 239 – Move to Millions Minute: I Embrace All Phases of Growth

When I realized that growth isn’t linear, I felt so liberated.  It was a proverbial pebble in my business building shoe to hold myself to a standard of having to increase my revenue every single month. Because I know that money grows when you grow, I quickly realized that all growth is not financial and it changed my focus in my business – while I set growth goals each month and quarter it’s not always a linear financial metric that we are focused on.  Affirm with me this week:

I always get so excited and I’m glad I’m recording this prior to the event because I’m. I also get so emotional and I get caught up in what I watch happening inside of the room. It’s about selling millions. It’s about generating millions.

You know, typically, even though I haven’t done it for quite some time, we go through the process of using our move to millions, million dollar CEO affirmation card deck in order to give you an affirmation for the week. I haven’t done that for weeks, y’all. I haven’t done it for weeks because I’ve been allowing other things to sit in my spirit that I feel like I need to share with you so that you can go to the next level. That’s the most important thing. I want you to have what you need. And I want these weekly, daily, these weekly doses of inspiration and affirmation to fuel you on the journey. There are some who might think that getting to the million dollar mark is sunshine and rainbows all the time. But I’m here to let you know, sometimes it’s going to torrential rain downpour.

And when it does, I want one of these affirmations to speak to your soul and to give you the courage to dust yourself off, come out of the rain and do it all again. Recognizing why you have the mission to have a business that generates at and beyond the million dollar mark, because that’s what it’s really all about. Recognizing what it’s about to have a business that generates at and beyond the million dollar mark, because that is ultimately the goal of this whole entire movement. So now this week’s affirmation. I’m really excited about this one. I embrace the multifaceted journey of business growth, recognizing that true success transcends financial metrics. Can I just say that part right there real quick? Again? Recognizing that true success transcends mere financial metrics. As I navigate the phases of expansion, I welcome the growth of wisdom, resilience, and character.

Each challenge I encounter is an opportunity for personal and professional development. Refining my leadership skills and deepening my understanding of myself and my team. I get really, really excited when I recognize what I talked about in this week’s full length episode. We got into the phases of growth in a business, right? I called it, you’re going through a phase because here’s the thing. I think most of us come into business jaded, right? We think that we’re going to start a business, it’s going to be successful and we’re going to grow and grow and grow.

Darnyelle Jervey Harmon [00:06:19]:
And inside of a span of three years, we will have accomplished whatever it is we put down on our paper. And here’s the thing. Sometimes it works out that way and sometimes it doesn’t. Right? There are some things that are beyond your control of what you’re able to do, and then there are things that are absolutely in your control. Amongst them is recognizing that growth, real growth, true growth, is not just financial growth. I remember when I worked in corporate America, I worked for a company called MB and a America bank, and we were a financial services institution. And during our height, we experienced consecutive double digit quarters growth. And we did that for a multitude of quarters.

Darnyelle Jervey Harmon [00:07:05]:
I used to know it by heart. It’s been lots of years since I’ve been there, so I don’t know it by heart anymore. But we had consecutive growth every quarter. And so I was a little jaded when I came into entrepreneurship because I thought it would be the same way. Without recognizing everything that goes into being able to have a company that is generating multiple quarters of consecutive double digit earnings growth when you are part of a corporation, I’m just here to tell you that it’s way easier to do that than when it is that you are an entrepreneur, a solopreneur. Initially, I think almost every business starts as a solopreneur, and then they become a CEO as they build out a team. The dynamics are not the same. So the expectations going in shouldn’t be the same.

Darnyelle Jervey Harmon [00:07:53]:
And when you recognize that there are distinct phases of growth and that there will be time spent in each phase, and some phases, multiple periods of time spent, it can help to lessen the anxiety in the ajida that has the potential to show up, because you’ve been on this belief that all you’re going to do is grow like all you do is win, as DJ Khaled told us. But the growth may not be always financial. I remember quarters in my own company where our revenue remained flat. But as a leader, I grew as a company, our operational infrastructure got sound, where we could stop starting from scratch. And we have really effective systems. Right. I’ve had quarters where our team’s results grew, but our revenue didn’t necessarily spike at the same level. And so it’s important to understand that growth is not linear and every business model is going to experience growth in a different way.

Darnyelle Jervey Harmon [00:08:54]:
Right. If you’re tracking your first year at the million dollar mark this year, you can pull your calculator out and you can say, okay, a million dollars is $83,333.33 a month. You can absolutely do that. It’s true. The likelihood that in your business you’re going to generate $83,333.33 each month. Yeah, probably not so much, right? Some months you might do 60,000, some months you might do 25,000. Some months you might do 300,000. Growth is not linear.

Darnyelle Jervey Harmon [00:09:31]:
And depending upon your business model, when you launch products and services, when you interact with the market, when you are showing up in sales fails, that will determine when your revenues spike. Knowing this, going in with all of the preparation, which I highly recommend that you do prepare, we teach our clients 90 days in advance at a time that you’re working on your business, so that you can be a proactive CEO and not a reactive CEO, but recognizing that sometimes it doesn’t go the way you planned, you might close 25 people into your $30,000 program, and with that $30,000 program, they’re paying you $2,500 a month. Well, you could have one month where five of the 25 people, their payment doesn’t go through, and now you’re going through a collections process and system to get that money to come in. And so that reduces your revenue that particular month by $12,500. And then the next month those five previous payments come through, plus the 25 that were supposed to come through. So your revenue increases by $12,500. It’s going to zig and zag. And the best leaders strengthen their resiliency, their self growth, their self leadership, their efficacy of their team in every opportunity to prepare for the non linear growth that is likely to happen inside of their business.

Darnyelle Jervey Harmon [00:11:03]:
Listen, if it happens for you that you set the goal to do $83,333.33, and you do that every single month, rock on. But I know on my own journey, especially prior to getting to the point where every month was at least a six figure cash month, it was not linear, it was up and down. Right? Months like May and June, which are when we do our live events, spike massively. We could do a half a million dollars a month in May or June, but we don’t necessarily operate our business to do a half a million dollars a month every single month. That’s not our business model. So you’ve got to understand that as a part of the process. As you begin to understand this, you’ll be able to lean fully into this week’s affirmation. I embrace the multifaceted journey of business growth, recognizing that true success transcends mere financial metrics.
